Connecticut does not participate in any electronic title or electronic lienholder programs.
Important Information
Ownership Transfer in Absence of Title:
If you have misplaced your title and you are selling your vehicle to a Connecticut resident, you may:
- Fill out Application for Replacement Certificate of Title (form H-6B).
- Must also include an Original Connecticut DMV Supplemental Assignment of Ownership Form (Q1 form). This form is also available at your local DMV office.
- Transfer of ownership will not be valid unless form Q1 Supplemental Assignment of Ownership is included.
- If lienholder is listed on the title, lien release letter needs to be provided.
- You can replace a tile by mail on behalf of a deceased individual.

Who is eligible
The titled owner(s) of the vehicle(s)/vessel(s) may request a replacement title. If there is an outstanding lien, the lienholder shall apply for a replacement certificate of title with a power of attorney by mail only.
How to
Step 1: Gather what you'll need
- Your first and last name exactly as it appears on your current driver's license or non-driver ID.
- Your date of birth.
- Your driver's license or non-driver ID number.
- Your social security number (not required for owners with an out-of-state driver's license or Connecticut drive only license)
- Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and/or Hull Identification Number (HIN)
- A credit or debit card.

Your replacement title will arrive through the mail within 20 business days.

How to
Step 1: Gather what you'll need
- Completed application for Replacement Certificate of Title (Form H-6B)
- This form will need to be signed by their owner(s), or legal representative.
- If there is an outstanding lien, the lienholder shall apply for a replacement certificate of title with a power of attorney by mail only.
- If a lien is listed on the title, a lien release letter must be submitted with the form.
